Kvæði in Old Norse Empty
PostSubject: Kvæði in Old Norse   Kvæði in Old Norse EmptyFri Jun 03, 2011 1:50 pm

I know what my help me memorise a bit more Old Norse! Translations of some lines 9at least) of the kvæðini that I can understand in Faroese. Also just for everyone's interest! Who thinks they could do that? Wink

How about we start at...

Kongurin situr á hásæti,
Talar við sínar dreingir,
“Vit skulu sigla tann salta sjógv,
Tað havi eg hugsað leingi”

Very Happy

I think having an English semi-literal translation would help us translate into Old Norse more accurately. Could you provide this?

Of that? I can do Smile

The king sits on (a) throne,
Speaking with his sons/boys
We shall sail the salty sea,
That I have long dreamed of.

Hmmmmm...

Konungrinn sitr á hásæti,
Talar með hans drengir,
"Vér skulum sigla á salta sæ,
Þat hugsaði ek lengi"

That's the best I've got.
